Chris began training as a martial artist in 1968, which coincidentally was the same year that he decided that he was going to become a geologist and a university professor when he grew up. Later, he decided not to grow up. Chris is partly a scientist, a martial artist, a Reiki practitioner, a philosopher, poet, an amateur photographer and an avid reader. He has a deep love for the universe, the environment and for life. It may sound trite, but it is the driving desire to understand life, the meaning of the universe and the nature of the world around him that has led Chris into the life of the geologist and the world of the martial artist,
His desire to study, understand, document and express the world in which he moves has led him to the pen, the camera and the computer keyboard.
Chris has been a university professor for more than twenty-five years and currently teaches in Geosciences and also in Kinesiology. He is an entrepreneur and has owned his own successful martial arts school since 1996. He holds black belt rank in several martial arts and is a member of the Board of Directors for Akayama Ryu Ju Jitsu and Shinsei Hapkido. He was a monthly featured columnist in Martial Arts Professional Magazine from 2004-2007.
It is through the lens created by all of these experiences that Chris writes the Pathways newsletter.
